"In the last 15 years, outside of the UN the trend of the interest in learning Chinese has been on the rise. The situation at the UN is the reflection of the outside world." Dr. Yong Ho, supervisor of the United Nations Chinese Language Programme, has witnessed a growing interest in Chinese language learning among UN staff since he joined the program in 2002.
Over the last 14 years, Yong Ho has designed various classes and organized cultural events to enhance his students' learning experience of the Chinese language. Through summer courses in China - a collaboration with Nanjing University - his students learn the language by exploring the culture and local customs while in China.
In 2004 and 2014, Dr. Ho received the United Nations' "UN 21 Award," an award to honor its outstanding staff, for his contribution to Chinese teaching.
